Hand made with Japanese spirits "Mottainai"
Mottainai is a Japanese word conveying a sense of compulsion to reuse and avoid waste. KYOKO KIMONO features the Mottainai spirits in her creation with sustainable use of materials. After carefully disassembling the original kimono and obi, KYOKO KIMONO recreates them into jewel-like silk accessories embodying the traditional Japanese spirit in contemporary forms. All of the original fabric is utilized, even the lining; everything is upcycled. There is virtually no waste in the reconstruction process.
One of a kind
At KYOKO KIMONO, all products are carefully crafted by hand. We also collaborate with local artists and designers who share the same value in the circularity of unused products, making a positive impact to the people and our environment.

Silk
Kimono silk is a breathable fabric with a gentle and soothing touch. This makes our products cool in the summer yet warm in the winter. All the products at KYOKO KIMONO are 100% silk made from upcycled vintage and antique kimonos which are older than 100 years.
Silk Care
KYOKO KIMONO products are made from delicate vintage kimonos. Kimono silk may shrink or fade when treated incorrectly. In order to keep the original soft texture and colour, it is recommended not to machine wash or hand wash. Dry cleaning is recommended when necessary.
When your silk product gets wrinkles, you can iron it. Set your iron in the silk/low setting. Place a handkerchief or thin piece of cloth between the iron and the silk. Do not iron silk in high temperatures. Always remember that silk is a protein structure much like human hair. Heat can easily damage the silk. Please do not use bleach and do not use the drying machine.
